Perfect Pitcher Margaritas on the Rocks

Perfect Pitcher Margaritas on the Rocks

I love a good, fresh tasting margarita without artificial sour mix. I have to give my brother credit for teaching me how to make a real margarita years ago, this is definitely his recipe adjusted to make a large batch. These are so good, I could never go back to drinking margaritas using a pre-made margarita mix.

This margarita recipe is the best for entertaining and serving multiple drinks at once. The balance of bite and a touch of sweetness in these works well for the varied tastes of a crowd. We’ve had friends who thought they didn’t like margaritas really enjoy these. You can mix the ingredients together ahead of time and chill in the refrigerator, then just stir in ice right before serving so they don’t become watered down. Or if you are serving them one at a time, you can pour one serving into a cocktail shaker and shake with ice before pouring.

Perfect Pitcher Margaritas on the Rocks

Prep time: 5-10 min | Cook time: 0 min | Total Time: 5-10 min | Servings: 7 (6 oz servings)

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups Silver Tequila (I really liked Camarena Tequila in these. If you need gluten-free make sure the tequila is 100% agave. Read more here)

  • 1.5 cups Triple Sec or Cointreau

  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 3-5 limes depending on their size)

  • 1/2 cup Rose’s Sweetened Lime Juice

  • 1/4 cup orange juice

Optional garnishes:

  • Margarita salt

  • Lime wedges

Equipment

  • Pitcher

  • Citrus squeezer

  • Mixing spoon

  • Ice

Directions

1. Pour all above ingredients into a pitcher and stir. Store in the refrigerator until serving.

2. Prepare your margarita glasses. If using salt, rub a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and then dip in the salt.

3. Right before serving, stir a couple of cups of ice into the pitcher for about 15-30 seconds and then pour into glasses immediately.

*If you don’t plan to pour all the drinks at once and are serving, don’t add ice to the pitcher. Instead, stir the pitcher well then pour one serving into a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well and then pour into a glass to serve.
